AMD is reportedly delaying the launch of its next-generation RDNA4 graphics cards until early next year. According to MLID, the reason for the delay can be boiled down to a surplus of higher-end RDNA3 graphics cards that just aren’t selling as well as their lower-tier models.
On that note, other rumourmongers are speculating that AMD is planning on announcing its new RDNA4 architecture and accompanying cards at CES 2025 next year, which kicks off in January. MLID’s sources seem to differ, stating that an “early Q1 2025” is more appropriate, given the mentioned surplus of high-end RDNA3 Radeon GPUs, including the RTX 7900 XT, 7900 XTX, and 7900 GRE.
Having to wait for the beautiful 130mm² Navi 44 until CES is sad.

To be fair, MLID isn’t exactly the most reliable source when it comes to these matters. That being said, a quick look on the Steam survey does speak some truth the matter; AMD’s most popular GPU, the Radeon 7900 XTX, is ranked at 34th place.
The surplus also presents an annoying situation for AMD. The company already made it clear that it was giving up the rat race in the high-end and enthusiasts GPU market, choosing instead to focus on volume control via affordable, mid-range RDNA4 graphics cards. It makes sense, seeing how its rival has left very little wiggle room for the competition.
