While it’s not something we see a lot of, Google’s own Gmail service comes with summary cards that provide info at a glance for emails in your inbox. The internet search giant has announced that it is expanding on the feature, as well as a new Happening Soon section above the other mail in your inbox.
But before we get into that, Google says that Gmail summary cards will be added for email related to purchases, events, bills and travel. Despite the different categories, the gist of it is that these summary cards will tell you when something is coming up. Which means you’ll see roughly when something you bought is arriving, a reminder that you’ve bought tickets for an upcoming concert, if you’ve got bills that’s due soon, or a plane to catch, respectively.
Tying all that together is the aforementioned Happening Soon section above your inbox. If you’ve got a few of the things mentioned above happening soon, they will be brought to your attention in this section. When there are multiple of these stacked, you can expand them, and hit individual summary cards to go to the relevant email immediately.
As for when you’ll get access to these summary cards, Google says that it’s only rolling out purchase summary cards first for Gmail on Android and iOS. The other three will follow “in the coming months”, alongside the Happening Soon section on top.
