Last month, we saw reports of Google Gemini Live being available for free to a handful of Android users. With a new post on X, Google has said that Gemini Live is being rolled out to more people, and free of charge. And it looks like this applies to users in Malaysia.
If you need a refresher, the latest incarnation of Gemini is meant to do just about everything the old Google Assistant did, though the complete list of features has yet to be added. Specifically for Gemini Live though, this is the part that lets you chat with it.
We're starting to roll out Gemini Live in English to more people using the Android app, free of charge. Go Live to talk things out with Gemini, explore a new topic, or brainstorm ideas. Keep an eye out for Gemini Live in the Gemini app 👀 pic.twitter.com/0VL0c7E6Gw

Language selection is pretty limited, though this is not exactly surprising since the update post only mentions English. The limitations get weirder if your default language is not set to English (US). For instance, the option to change the voice of Google Gemini is only available if the above is the language you’ve set. The option does not appear if you have English (UK) as your default language, for instance.
That aside, Gemini Live works about as well as previously advertised. Probably worth noting at this point that you have to be connected to the internet to use it.
