UPDATE (6:14PM): The Japanese PlayStation account has stated that the issue has been resolved, though stopped short of mentioning a reason behind the outage. The official PSN Service Status page is all green as well.

ORIGINAL STORY (9:49AM):
Every once in a while, PlayStation gamers face the unfortunate situation of PSN getting knocked offline, with seemingly no rhyme or reason. It looks like today is one of those days, with the gaming network suffering an outage once again.
As confirmed by the official PSN Service Status page, just about every PlayStation platform – including web, interestingly – has been knocked offline. Said page also notes that the outage started as recently as 20 minutes ago at the time of writing.
At any rate, this means no multiplayer gaming, or even some singleplayer games that require that you be online to play. By extension, you won’t have access to anything related to your PSN account either, nor can anyone create new accounts during this time. Titles that are strictly offline remain playable, but if you’re thinking of buying a few digitally at this time, you’re out of luck.
While it’s an unfortunate situation, it is, as mentioned, something that happens every once in a blue moon. Outage lengths vary, and sometimes no reason is provided by PlayStation as to what caused the service to be knocked offline. For what it’s worth, relatively few will be affected by an outage that happens on a weekday morning compared to, say, the evening on a weekend.
