Alongside the new 14T series, Xiaomi has brought over the Buds 5, its premium ANC earbuds that were introduced in China a couple of months. The buds get a similar design to the Buds 4 Pro, but instead of soft silicone tips, these come with hard plastic tips.
The Buds 5 comes with 11mm dual-magnet drivers along with Harman AudioEFX tuning, along with what claims to be an ergonomic fit with its semi in-ear design. For sound quality, the earbuds offer five preset EQ settings and support spatial audio, or as the brand calls it, “dimensional audio”. Moreover, it comes with support for Qualcomm aptX Lossless Audio Encoding along with a 73ms low-latency mode for gaming.
Despite its lack of a seal, the Buds 5 is capable of active noise cancellation as well as AI-powered noise cancellation for phone calls. As for the battery life, the company states that it can last up to 6.5 hours on a single charge and a total of 39 hours with the charging case, although this estimate is for when ANC is disabled.
The buds are controlled via pinches on the stem, but you can also control the volume by sliding up and down the stem. On the durability side, the earbuds themselves come with an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, although this is not extended to the charging case.
The Buds 5 retails at RM459 and comes in three colour options, with promotional price of RM379 for its launch. It can be purchased through the brand’s Shopee and Lazada stores as well as its authorised retailers.
