When Google announced that the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and the Pixel 9 series would have a presence in Malaysia, I won’t lie: a tinge of excitement and euphoria rushed over me. The TWS earbuds came by my labs earlier this week, providing me with a respite from testing another brand of earbuds that shall remain unnamed here.
Like all hands on, this isn’t an in-depth review, but more of a first look at Google’s second generation Pro TWS earbuds. Broad strokes of the aesthetics and features offered by the audio accessories, if you will.
The first thing that really intrigues me is the size of the earbuds; of all the TWS earbuds, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are quite possibly the smallest units that I’ve stuck in my ears. Google said these were designed to be the most comfortable earbuds it ever made – it wasn’t an exaggeration.
The casing of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is also a looker. Granted, it can’t stand up at its base and laying it flat is the defacto position it has, but it is still pretty thing to look at, in a very Material, minimalism kind of way.
Internally, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 runs on a combination of custom-designed 11mm dynamic drivers and Google’s Tensor A1 chip. Then there’s the Silent Seal 2.0 the search engine claims to be able to cancel twice as much noise than other earbuds. I tried it briefly and I have to say: it’s amazing how these earbuds are able to continue functioning as normal even when there are strong winds blowing around.
And yes, the ANC is strong enough that it can block out the outside world, and without the sound pressure level (SPL) feeling too strong or overwhelming.
I’m still working through the audio delivery and performance of the Pixel Buds Pro 2, and an in-depth review is on the way. Check this space again to find out how much performance you’re getting for RM1,099.
