Along with its new MatePad Pro 12.2 tablet, Huawei has also introduced a new smartwatch lineup called the Watch GT 5 series. Unveiled just last week, the series is made up of the standard GT 5, which comes in 41mm and 46mm sizes, as well as the GT 5 Pro, which is offered in 42mm and 46mm sizes.
Both watches are fitted with the same screens, with the smaller models sporting a 1.32-inch AMOLED display while the bigger variants get a 1.43-inch AMOLED display — all the variants provide a 466×466 resolution. As for the materials, the vanilla model has a chassis made out of stainless steel whereas the Watch GT 5 Pro uses ceramics and a titanium alloy.
As for durability, the smartwatches can operating within the range –20°C to 45°C, along with a 5ATM water resistance and an IP69K rating. On top of this, the Pro model is even compatible for free diving up to 40 metres. Battery-wise, the 46mm variants can last up to 14 days while the smaller sizes can be used for up to a whole week.
The two smartwatches are equipped with the brand’s TruSense system, which has sensors to monitor your heart rate, blood-oxygen saturation levels, sleep quality, and menstrual cycle, with ECG tracking being exclusive to the Pro via a dedicated button on the side. For fitness, they are able to track over 100 types of exercises, including a Golf Course mode that covers over 15,000 courses globally.
Regarding connectivity, both watches boast on-device GPS and support for Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. There is also the ability to make Bluetooth phone calls using the built-in microphone and speakers.
The Watch GT 5 starts from RM1,099 for the 41mm model and RM1,199 for the 46mm model. Meanwhile the GT 5 Pro retails at RM1,999 for the 42mm variant and RM1,399 for the 46mm variant. They can be pre-ordered through the brand’s online store, Shopee, and Lazada from now until 4 October; pre-orders come with a free pair of earbuds.
