Sony today officially revealed the local pricing and availability of the recently announced PlayStation 5 Pro for the local market. Much like for the global market, it is slated to arrive in Malaysia on 7 November 2024, and will retail at RM3,849. Those interested can pre-order the high-end variant of the video game console via Sony’s official web store and participating retailers starting from 26 September.
To recap, the PlayStation 5 Pro introduces significant hardware upgrades, including a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, AI-driven upscaling, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). The enhanced GPU offers 28% faster memory and up to 45% faster rendering, while the new ray tracing technology improves light reflection and refraction for more dynamic visuals. PSSR uses machine learning to deliver sharper image clarity, improving the overall gaming experience.
In terms of features, the PS5 Pro supports Wi-Fi 7, variable refresh rate (VRR), and 8K gaming. The new PS5 Pro Game Boost feature enhances over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games, stabilising or improving resolution. Several high-profile games, such as Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, will benefit from the PS5 Pro Enhanced tag, offering improved visuals and performance.
Despite the internal upgrades, the PS5 Pro retains the same height and width as the original model, while nearly doubling the frame rate and maintaining fidelity-level image quality. All existing PS5 accessories, including VR2 and Access controllers, remain compatible, and users can continue to use the same interface and network services.
Sony adds the PS5 Pro will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed. It should be noted that the console is digital-only, but is capable of supporting the existing PS5 Disc Drive attachment (RM529) which will allow it to read Blu-ray discs.
