Sony recently confirmed that the PlayStation Pro will be available from this November. However, there are now rumors speculating that Sony is developing two SoCs: one for the PlayStation 6 and the other for a new PlayStation handheld.
According to KeplerL2, the source mentioned that while both SoCs are in development, it’s uncertain whether or not they will support a dual console strategy similar to the Xbox Series X/S or if they will cater to the PlayStation 6 and a handheld device. However, the leakster hinted that at least one of the SoCs is expected to be more affordable.
It’s also been reported that PlayStation 6 will be powered AMD hardware. The story goes that back in 2022, both Intel and AMD made a bid for the rights to develop and manufacture the chip for the PS6.
Sony ultimately awarded the contract to the red chipmaker, as Intel’s decision to step back was largely influenced by Sony’s demand for backward compatibility with earlier PlayStation models. This also led to disagreements regarding profit sharing with the Japanese firm because meeting this demand would be too costly and would require substantial engineering resources.
