Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, via his most recent Power On newsletter, is suggesting that Apple’s completely rebuilt Siri with Apple Intelligence could be released sooner than expected. According to him, the voice assistant’s new capabilities will be released in phases rather than a single, comprehensive launch.
Citing his sources, Gurman noted that some of these new Siri features might debut in iOS 18.3, instead of the originally expected iOS 18.4. He stated that the biggest iOS 18 update after iOS 18.1 will be iOS 18.4, which will include many of the voice assistant’s new improvements, with some in consideration for iOS 18.3. This suggests that users might get an early look at the revamped features by January 2025, rather than March.
The newsletter also outlined the development timeline for upcoming iOS 18 versions. iOS 18.1 is expected to be completed internally by the middle of October, with iOS 18.2 following in December. iOS 18.3 should be finalised by the end of the year, with a release expected in January, whereas iOS 18.4 is projected to arrive in March.
As for what’s coming in these updates, iOS 18.1 will introduce the first wave of Apple Intelligence features, including a light Siri refresh with a new user interface and faster responses, alongside Writing Tools, Photos Clean Up, and Notification Summaries. iOS 18.2 will follow with additions like Image Playground, Genmoji, and ChatGPT integration. The complete overhaul of Siri, on the other hand, is expected to roll out with iOS 18.3 or iOS 18.4 in early 2024. Of course, all of the information provided is still unofficial, so do take it with a grain of salt.
