Microsoft launched a dedicated Windows app today. The app is designed to work with Android and Apple devices, the latter specifically for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.
Microsoft says that the Windows app is also accessible to not just Android devices but also Windows PCs. The idea is basic: you get to stream a copy of the OS from a variety of sources that include 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Remote Desktop.
It should be noted that the app is still limited to Microsoft work and school accounts, and that’s simply because the app was designed for existing Remote Desktop clients and other operating systems. For that matter, you can still use the Remote Desktop Connection app, which is still part and parcel of Windows 11.
At the time of writing, there’s no word when Microsoft plans on supporting consumer accounts for the new app. Nevertheless, it is still downloadable via the Microsoft Store if you’re on the OS, as well as the Apple App Store. Surprisingly, the Android version is only entering public preview mode today, meaning a full release of the app isn’t expected until later.
