WhatsApp recently updated its Channels section, with said channels now organised and sorted by categories. Users will now be able to browse through seven different categories, including People, Organisations, Lifestyle, Sports, Entertainment, Businesses, and News & Information.
The compartmentalised section can be found under the “Updates” tab. In there, simply hit the “Explore” button and you’ll see the categories mentioned there.
Channels made its debut last year, providing users with a way of following their favourite outlets that have a presence on the messaging app. However, prior to the update, you’d find the channels by typing out their names in the search box. On a side note, if you didn’t already know, we’re on the platform too.
It’s a feature Meta quite likely adopted from Telegram, which is the popular alternative to WhatsApp, primarily due to the fact that content posted on that platform is virtually unrestricted, at least for now. The update is already live and is available via Android and iOS.
