Last week, Google announced that it had begun rolling out Gemini Live for free on Android devices. Initially, access to this feature was limited to subscribers of Gemini Advanced, but reports indicate that this restriction is now changing.
According to 9to5Google, many users are starting to gain access to Gemini Live without needing a subscription. Android users can now interact with Gemini through a speech icon in the app, facilitating easier access to the AI-powered tool and speak to it in a talkative manner.
Once activated, users can speak freely with Gemini and even interrupt it while it’s responding. Users are also greeted with a brief walkthrough that explains how to select a voice, as well as manage microphone functions. Users can simply say “stop” to deactivate the microphone instead of using physical buttons.
Currently, the free version of Gemini Live is still in the early stages of its rollout on Android, with no availability for iOS users as of yet. Google is implementing this rollout in phases, meaning that availability may vary among users.
