Tecno has officially unveiled its second generation of foldable smartphones with the Phantom V Fold2 and the Phantom V Flip2. The successors to last year’s V Fold and V Flip, the two phones come with more refined designs while keeping the price tags relatively affordable (in terms of foldables).
Starting off with the Phantom V Fold2, it gets an identical screen setup as its predecessor with a 7.85-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED main display when unfolded and a 6.42-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED cover display. Under the hood, it also runs on the same MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset. While many of its internals have not changed, the book-style foldable is a whopping 50g lighter and even 2mm thinner in its folded state.
As for imaging, it gets a minor upgrade with an OIS-enabled 50MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and two 32MP selfie shooters for the inner and outer displays. Powering it notably larger 5,750mAh battery paired with a faster 70W wired charging speed and the addition of 15W wireless charging.
Next up is the V Flip2, which also carries many of the same specs as its predecessor but with a huge overhaul for the cover screen. It still sports a 6.9-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED inner display, but the previously-circular outer display is now a much larger and rectangular 3.64-inch AMOLED panel. Inside, the device runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 8020.
Its optics setup comes with a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 32MP front snapper. The clamshell phone similarly gets an improvement in the battery department with a bigger 4,720mAh battery that supports a faster charging speed of 70W.
The Phantom V Fold2 retails at US$1,099 (~RM4,668) while the V Flip2 gets a price tag of US$699 (~RM2,969). They are launching in Africa next week but will only be available in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America later in September and October.
