iPadOS 18 promises a range of features, including a sophisticated calculator app, for Apple tablets, but not for the iPad Pro models running the latest M4 chip, at least for awhile. This is following a number of claims from owners of the tablet who have installed the update, only for their device to end up being unresponsive instead.
Such claims of bricked M4 iPad Pro first appeared on Reddit. Some of the claims have noted that the bricking happened to the devices who were upgrading from versions 17.7 to 18, while others who upgraded from 17.6 have reportedly done so without issues. The former, according to Ars Technica, was primarily a security update.
As you might expect, the M4 iPad Pros bricked by the iPadOS 18 update have been so thoroughly unresponsive that the option to go into recovery mode went out the window. With that being the case, such claims also note that Apple is issuing hardware replacements for bricked tablets.
It looks like the issue of iPadOS 18 bricking M4 iPad Pro tablets were widespread enough that Apple has pulled the update, but only for the affected tablets. The aforementioned report includes confirmation by the bitten fruit brand, with a statement stating that it is working to “resolve an issue that in impacting a small number of devices”.
