Apple Watch’s blood oxygen monitoring feature will not be available on the recently launched Series 10 models sold in the US, TechCrunch reports. While unconfirmed officially, this is likely due to the ongoing patent dispute between Apple and medical device company Masimo.
As you may recall, the legal battle led to the halted sales of last year’s Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 last year, which later resulted in the disablement of the feature entirely from both models. It’s still unclear whether the removal of the blood oxygen feature on the Series 10 models is due to a hardware modification or if it has simply been disabled via software, as was the case with its predecessor.
Despite the patent battle, Apple continues to introduce new health features to its newer smartwatches. In fact, the company recently announced several updates to the Series 10, which includes sleep apnea detection capability.
So what about the rest of the world? Thankfully, the unavailability of blood oxygen monitoring only applies to existing and newer Apple Watch models that are sold in the US while the legal dispute between Apple and Masimo continues. In other words, users worldwide, including those in Malaysia, will still be able to access the feature without issue.
