Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT, the first ever commercially available tri-fold foldable smartphone. According to consumer group chairman Richard Yu, the phone has been five years in the making and as of yesterday, has racked up over three million pre-orders.
With three LTPO OLED screens with a 120Hz refresh rate, the Mate XT has multiple opening states that offer three different sizes. When in its folded form, the cover display stands at a regular 6.4 inches, but unfolding it once turns it into a bigger 7.6-inch screen. The second unfolding, using all three panels, reveals a gigantic 10.2-inch display that’s nearly the size of a full tablet.
Under the hood, its chipset is unspecified, but it is speculated to be running on a Kirin 9 series processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. On the optics front, it gets a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 12MP telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom, and an 8MP selfie snapper.
Powering the tri-fold smartphone are three batteries that total up to a capacity of 5,600mAh with support for 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, as well as 7.5W reverse charging. As for the software, the device ships with HarmonyOS 4.2.
The Mate XT is offered in three storage configurations with a starting price of CNY19,999 (~RM12,215) for the base trim. It will go on sale in China starting 20 September 2024, but it is still unknown whether the phone will be available in other markets.
