With the Glowtime event now behind us, Apple has officially announced the iPhone 16 and its Plus model, measuring in at 6.1 and 6.7 inches respectively. A number of the prior leaks have proven to be accurate, including the vertical camera arrangement.
Though what is surprising is that the base iPhone 16 is also getting the capacitive shutter button, which was previously thought to be only for the Pro models. This is getting paired with the action button, so you can leave the latter as a shortcut for something else.
Continuing with accurate leaks, the iPhone 16 has been confirmed to get a 48MP f/1.6 main camera. The deets on the secondary camera was a bit off, with the official reveal stating that it is a 12MP f/2.2 camera instead. The former is, unsurprisingly, doing most of the heavy lifting, providing the macro mode as well as the 2x telephoto equivalent, with equivalent being the operative word. Also worth mentioning is the ability to take spatial stills and videos compatible with the Vision Pro.
Apple also showed off what it calls Visual Intelligence on the iPhone 16. It looks a lot like what Google Lens does, and maybe a bit more. That being the case though, it may a bit odd that this is part of the Apple Intelligence suite of features, alongside things previously shown off like custom emojis and text summaries.
It looks like Apple is also doing away with giving the base models outdated silicon, as the iPhone 16 now gets the 3nm A18 chip. So it’s no real surprise that the bitten fruit brand claims that it’s 30% faster than the A16 on the iPhone 15, while also using 30% less power. Their screens can go as low as 1 nit of brightness when used in the dark, and all the way to 2,000 under sunlight.
According to Apple’s Malaysia site, the iPhone 16 has a starting price of RM3,999 for 128GB of storage, going up to RM4,499 and RM5,499 for 256GB and 512GB, respectively. For the Plus model, the options are RM4,499, RM4,999 and RM5,999 for the same storage space options. Availability details though are as of yet unknown. An update to the site reveals that pre-orders start from 13 September, while availability proper begins the week after, on 20 September.
