IFA is not just an event where brands unveil commercial products; it’s also a time when cool concepts are shown to the world. Such is the case with the Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC concept, which takes artificial intelligence back to its robotic roots.
This concept laptop comes with a motorised hinge that can also twist itself around. This allows the Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC concept to keep its screen facing the user, as well as unfold itself into different modes as if it were a convertible. And it does all this via voice commands, with one example in the report being “Hi Twist”, which gets it to switch between tablet and laptop modes.
In theory, this sounds pretty rad. But as is always the case, reality paints a different picture, and a pretty dour one, unfortunately. The Verge reports that the Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC concept responds to voice commands within a second or two, but the actual transformation can take “about 10 seconds”. Of course, less affected by this is the feature that makes the screen follow the user. Which, by the way, sounds awfully similar to what Apple might be doing with an upcoming Smart Display.
Of course, being a concept, the Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC isn’t guaranteed to make it into the consumer market, and probably not in its current form, judging from the transforming process. It does look thin enough to fit in with today’s ever thinner and ever lighter laptops, for what it’s worth.
