Last month, we saw leaks of what was called the PICO 4S, with an alternative name for it being the PICO 4 Ultra. Nearly a month later, the mixed reality headset has made their way to our shores, using the latter name. The few bits of items from its spec sheet have proven to be accurate, and now with the launch behind us, we get access to the rest of what the headset has to offer.
The local launch of the PICO 4 Ultra has confirmed that it does indeed sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 and 12GB of RAM, with 256GB of storage space to go with it. Also confirmed now is the pair of pass-through cameras, which we now know are 32MP units.
On the inside, the PICO 4 Ultra has a pair of 2.56-inch screens of 2,160 x 2,160 resolution and 90Hz refresh rate, but the rendering resolution is locked to 1,920 x 1,920. As with its base iteration, there are stereo speakers built into the headset. It also comes with a 5,700mAh battery.
As the leaks also revealed, the PICO 4 Ultra comes with controllers that make do without the halo around it. These instead on on AA batteries to keep them powered.
On the flip side, the straps that appeared as part of the leaks have turned out to be what is called the PICO Motion Tracker. This suggest that it is supposed to be strapped to the ankles, and when paired with the controllers, provide tracking for all four limbs. These are noted to have a battery life of up to 25 hours, despite its 220mAh rating.
The PICO 4 Ultra is priced at RM2,799, and will be available for purchase starting tomorrow, 4 September. The motion trackers will be available from the same day, with a price of RM399. Get them before 22 September though and you can get them for a slightly lower price, though what these price tags are exactly will depend on whether you choose to get them from Shopee or Lazada.
