Perhaps you have heard of some services that allow users to authorise payments using just the palm of their hand, but now Philips is bringing that technology into your home. The company has unveiled its new lineup of smart locks, including a couple that feature palm recognition technology, promising a secure and convenient smart home addition.
With a total of five series of smart locks in its arsenal, the lineup uses palm vein recognition technology to capture and analyse the unique vein patterns within your palm, which the brand claims to be both highly accurate and secure. It works by scanning the vein patterns through near-infrared light to create a distinctive biometric template, with the ability to register up to 50 individual patterns, even with soiled hands.
For additional security, users have the option to integrate 3D face ID through its built-in camera, fingerprint recognition, as well as a fake PIN code feature. In case you are unable to use palm recognition to unlock it, users can also access the lock via the Easykey app or use conventional methods like a key. For voice assistants, the smart locks support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
The lineup is made up of the 3000, 6000, 7000, 8000, and 9000 series smart locks. Philips says that the smart locks will be available for purchase in Q4 2024, but for now, no exact details have been given about the prices or local availability.
