If you’ve used your fair share of bone conduction headphones, you’ll be familiar with the common trend of them not being all that great with bass. Unless you also plug your ears up, which defeats their purpose. The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 has an interesting solution to this issue – my having conventional air conduction speakers perform that duty instead.
The tech itself is what the company calls DualPitch. This is also claimed to eliminate vibrations in addition to “ensure precise mids and highs, and deep, controlled bass, akin to the audio quality of AirPods 3”. Which is a very specific point of comparison, especially for a pair of bone conduction headphones like the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2.
Other more iterative improvements include having its clamping force reduced by 16%, and AI noise cancelling so that 96.5% of noise doesn’t get to the other side of a call. The mics are also positioned so that it doesn’t get hit by the buffeting wind. Battery life of the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is rated at 12 hours, with an IP55 rating to go with it. All this, plus the aforementioned separate drivers, weighing in at 30g.
Overall, it remains to be seen if this design choice for the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 can really solve the bass problem, without introducing more noise leakage. At any rate, The Verge reports that this pair of bone conduction headphones is priced at US$179.95 (~RM778), with the brand’s UK site listing it as GBP169 (~RM965) instead. No word on local pricing and availability yet, unfortunately.
