Razer has announced an update to its Wolverine line of Xbox controllers ahead of RazerCon 2024 event. This comes in the form of the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, as well as a V3 Tournament Edition. For what it’s worth, the former is now consistent with its Xbox co-branding and is doing without the confusing touch pad but asymmetrical sticks like the V2 Pro.
As you’d expect, the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro comes with all the tech found in its previous generations. This includes the mecha-tactile buttons on the front of the controller, as well as the 8-way D-pad which is unfortunately in the wrong position.
So what exactly is new? The answer comes in the form of the back pedals, which the brand refers to as “mouse click back pedals”. In an earlier presentation, the company says that these pedals use the same switches found on the side of the Viper V2 Pro. Which is a bit of a missed opportunity, as those are the only ones that are not using optical switches, but it still means better actuation times. The thumb sticks on the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro also got an upgrade, this time using hall effect sticks and anti-friction rings for added longevity. You can also customise sensitivity and deadzones using the Synapse app.
Unlike most of the brand’s peripherals these days, while the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro supports HyperSpeed Wireless, the provided dongle doesn’t give you polling rates up to 8,000Hz. For that, you’ll still need the one that’s sold separately, and without it, your wireless polling rate caps out at 250Hz instead. In the meantime, a wired connection is still preferable here, with the company’s default 1,000Hz polling rate in play.
Beyond the Pro model, there is also the Razer Wolverine V3 Tournament Edition. This is a stripped down version of the controller, featuring the fancy buttons and switches, but makes do without the wireless functionality, rubber grips and Chroma lighting.
The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro is available immediately, and with an official price tag of RM1,079 on the brand’s official online store. The Wolverine V3 Tournament Edition, on the other hand, has a RM529 price tag, but will only be available sometime in Q3 of the year. That being the case, a brand rep tells us that it would be possible to find these for RM1,029 and RM519, respectively via official resellers.
