Earlier this year, we saw that Bolt, a major e-hailing company from Estonia, was making moves in Malaysia as it started seeking a country manager, indicating its imminent arrival. Now, the company has set up a Malaysian landing page on its website where it is currently recruiting drivers.
Through the website, Malaysian drivers with an e-hailing licence can sign up to be a Bolt driver, although it does not state when the app will start operating here. For the locations available, it only lists Klang Valley under the Malaysian section, so we can assume that this is where the platform will make its local debut.
Moreover, while the country manager vacancy post seems to have been taken down, its careers page now has a new vacancy for a customer support team lead. Bolt currently operates in over 45 countries, but its only presence in Southeast Asia so far has been in Thailand.
While the recruitment of drivers certainly seems to hint that it will be launching here soon, it could still take some time before the app gets approved to operate in Malaysia, as the company is still absent from the Land Public Transport Agency’s (APAD) list of licensed e-hailing firms as of 7 August 2024.
