Meta and Spotify are apparently working on a feature that allows Instagram users to display the music they are currently listening to on Spotify in real time. The integrated feature will automatically share a note with the current song being played, visible to others via direct messages or on the user’s profile.
This new development was first discovered by developer Alessandro Paluzzi, who also shared a screenshot of it on Threads. The image provided demonstrates how the feature works, and it appears that users have the option to stop sharing their current playlist at any time.
Instagram users currently can share songs by manually creating a note, post or Story for only one single track, but it won’t show any other songs being played after. This real-time sharing function changes this approach, making it more automated. Former users of Microsoft’s old MSN Messenger app will likely find this feature nostalgic, harkening its playback integration with popular music player Winamp or the first-party Windows Media Player.
As of now, the real-time music sharing feature will only be exclusive to Instagram users who are also using Spotify. Since it is currently under development, it might be a while until we see a public release.
