Back in 2021, Sony launched the WF-C500 TWS buds as a more budget friendly alternative to the then top-of-the-line WF-1000XM4. With the latter’s successor now out and about, it’s probably no surprise that the budget option also gets a refresh. This comes in the form of the Sony WF-C510, which launches at a surprising price point, and a weird feature set.
Starting off with its spec sheet, the company claims that the Sony WF-C510 is the “smallest ever closed type earbuds” the brand has ever made. As a result, you get pretty small 6mm drivers to go with it. But for what it’s worth, the diminutive size also reflects its lightweight nature, with each bud weighing in at about 4.6g, with the case coming in at about 31g.
It is also one of the few examples of TWS buds to seemingly not have ANC, but has a transparency mode. Connecting with Bluetooth 5.3 the Sony WF-C510 provides a total of 11 hours of listening time, while the charging case providing another 11. With transparency mode, this gets cut down to eight hours for both the buds and the case. The buds, but not the case, also come with an IPX4 rating.
What’s probably the second most surprising thing about the Sony WF-C510, besides the fact that it has transparency mode but not ANC, is its price. Where the preceding model launched with a RM449 price tag, the successor has a more modest asking price of RM299, according to its official local listing. There’s no release date for the Malaysian market yet, but its US site notes a shipping date that starts on 9 September. We will likely hear from the company regarding local availability as we get closer to said date.
