Rememeber the hullabaloo over the possibility of a buttonless iPhone last year, before the iPhone 15 line was announced? We haven’t heard much about any other brand giving it a go themselves, but that has changed recently, with a report noting that Xiaomi may have one as soon as next year.
The report comes from Smartprix, which claims that this buttonless Xiaomi phone currently has a codename of Zhuque, referencing the Vermillion Bird of the South. Still said to be in its early stages, the phone may use a combination of gesture controls and pressure-sensitive edges. Voice commands is naturally an option too.
Continuing with the seamless look of a buttonless phone, this Xiaomi device is also said to feature an under-display camera in front. While it works aesthetically, it remains to be seen if it’s a good practical decision, since the tech still struggles to keep up with conventional option where image quality is concerned.
In terms of its potential specs, the Xiaomi buttonless phone will likely be a flagship device. The report does not include much in terms of details beyond claiming that it will be running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 4. As the base Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has itself yet to be unveiled, and the first phone that will be using it only releasing in October, what the Plus model brings to the table is unknown. But getting back to the phone itself, the report claims a release window of within the first half of next year.
