Public transport operator Prasarana has apparently fallen victim to a ransomware attack, leading to a massive trove of stolen data. This came from cyber threat monitor FalconFeeds, which is under the cybersecurity firm Technisanct, which posted on X that Prasana was hit by RansomHub ransomware.
FalconFeeds reports that the group claims it has obtained 316GB of the organisation’s data. Moreover, RansomHub allegedly plans on publishing all this data within the next seven days.

Adding to this, ThreatMon Advanced Ransomware Monitoring disclosed that the attacked happened on 25 August 2024 at 4.43 PM, with RansomHub adding Prasarana to its list of victims. During a press conference, BFM reported that transport minister Anthony Loke confirmed the attack and has instructed the company to look into it.
In response to this news, Prasarana has sent out a press release stating that its cybersecurity team is currently working on handling the situation, which involves unauthorised access in several of its systems. It is also working with CyberSecurity Malaysia and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA)to ensure all the right steps are taken. The operator ensured that its daily operations are not affected by this incident.
This isn’t the first time that it has been hit by ransomware, as a similar issue occurred last year which caused users to be unable to top-up their Touch ‘n Go cards at Putrajaya line MRT stations.
