Microsoft is rebranding its Copilot AI tools, shifting the main brand from “Microsoft Copilot” to “Microsoft 365 Copilot.” This change aims to promote the paid AI services offered under the Microsoft 365 umbrella. The name change will also apply to the paid version of the service, which will now be called Microsoft 365 Copilot, replacing the previous “Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365.”
The rebrand extends to individual applications as well, with simplified names like “Copilot in Word” shifting to “Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word.” Other specific Copilot services, such as Sales, Service, and Finance, will adopt names like “Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales” and likewise.
Additionally, Microsoft is introducing a new brand for its chat module within Microsoft 365 Copilot, called “Business Chat.” All of this seems typical of Microsoft’s way of structural rebranding, though it has apparently caused some internal confusion within its teams. Despite this, no major internal conflicts have emerged, but there is a chance that the Microsoft 365 team are keen to take ownership of the Copilot brand.
The rebranding primarily affects Microsoft’s AI products, with no immediate changes reported for consumer-facing Copilot tools managed by Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman. The transition to the Microsoft 365 branding is essentially focusing on aligning AI tools with the Office suite, though future business-focused Copilots outside this suite remain uncertain.
