The Callisto Protocol is one of this week’s free game on the Epic Games Store (EGS). From now until 29 August, you can add the game to your library absolutely free of charge, instead of paying its RM199 asking price.
Do note that the EGS offer is for the standard edition of The Callisto Protocol, and not its Digital Deluxe Edition. That means you only go get the base game, sans the DLCs and add-ons that came later.
The Callisto Protocol first released back in 2022, and was the first major title to be published by the South Korean publisher, KRAFTON. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because the company is also the owner of the once widely popular Battle Royale title, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, also known more commonly by its abbreviated name, PUBG.
The story follows starship captain Jacob Lee, modelled after US actor Josh Duhamel, who is survives a crash landing on a moon that houses a high-security prison, and is subsequently incarcerated. Throughout the game and in his attempt to get off the moon, Lee is forced to fight off Biophages, creatures once human that have mutated due to some unknown disease. It’s not a stretch to say that The Callisto Protocol draws heavily from the other space horror survival title, Dead Space, which released back in 2008 andreceived a remake back in 2023.
On another note, a second game, Gigantic Rampage Edition, is also free on EGS. When not on offer, the game retails for RM39.99.
