Samyang has unveiled the Remaster Slim, which is touted to be the world’s first autofocus lens with an optical exchange system. Regarding the latter, users can replace the internal optical system in order to switch between different prime focal lengths without needing to carry multiple lenses.
The bulk of the Samyang Remaster Slim is essentially a shell for the lens, featuring necessary physical and electrical components but allowing the core optical elements to be swapped out. These elements are held in place by a magnetic mounting system.
In terms of lens choices, Samyang has revealed three options so far: 21mm, 28mm, and 32mm optical systems – all of which have f/2.8 maximum apertures. According to the company, the design of these systems takes inspiration from classic point-and-shoot film cameras, updated for modern digital sensors while maintaining their vintage charm.
In addition to its optical exchange system, the Remaster Slim is Samyang’s thinnest autofocus lens to date. It measures less than two centimeters in length and weighs a mere 80 grams.
Despite its compact size, it retains a narrow manual focus ring and features a custom AF/MF switch. Notably, when in manual focus mode, the lens allows for closer focusing distances, enhancing its versatility for certain shots. Samyang claims that the lens produces images with a warm and soft tone, reminiscent of older optical systems.

However, it should be noted that the Remaster Slim is only compatible with Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Samyang did not mention any plans to make its new product compatible with shooters from other brands.
The Samyang Remaster Slim is available for preorder only in South Korea for now, with no word on international availability. It is priced at SKW308,000 (~RM1,006).
