Samsung recently unveiled the Odyssey 3D gaming monitor, the first glasses-free 3D monitor. First teased at CES 2024 and officially shown off at Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany, this monitor converts 2D visuals into 3D using advanced eye-tracking technology.
The Odyssey 3D is available in two sizes: 27-inch and 37-inch, and has a flat 4K QLED panel with a 165Hz variable refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium support, and a 1ms response time. The monitor has two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, and a height-adjustable stand with tilt adjustments, but Samsung has yet to reveal any specific brightness level figures.
“We are excited to present a glasses-free 3D gaming monitor that is differentiated from existing displays at Gamescom, the world’s largest gaming show. We will continue to lead the premium gaming monitor market through the development of various new technologies.” Jeong Hoon, Vice President of Samsung’s Visual Display Business Division, said.
The monitor uses two cameras for eye-tracking in 3D space, and with Samsung’s view-mapping technology, it can dynamically adjust an image using 3D effects. The Odyssey 3D also supports the conversion of standard 2D content into 3D and includes an option to switch to 2D mode for regular tasks like office work.
There has not been an official announcement from the South Korean tech giants in regards to its price, but a source close to us said that Samsung plans on launching the new monitor next year, although no specific date was given.
