Microsoft had planned for a feature named Recall to be launched alongside its Surface products of the year. Due to security concerns, the its rollout was not only delayed for general users, but even beta testers in the Windows Insider program lost the ability to test it. But it looks like the feature will be back in the hands of beta testers soon-ish.
In recent update to the blog post first published in June, Microsoft says that Recall will be making its way back into the hands of Windows Insiders in October. Since the feature is only meant to be for users of Copilot Plus PCs, at least initially, presumably this restriction still applies, even for beta testers.
As this comes as a small update to a much longer and detailed post, the update itself doesn’t explain the lengthy delay of the Recall feature. Considering it was first pulled due to security reasons, it’s likely that this remains the reason behind it, broadly speaking at least.
With that in mind, it remains to be seen when the general user public with the hardware capable of running it will be able to get access to Recall. Considering the gap between when it was locked away even from the Windows Insider folks and when they will be getting it back, chances are the average user won’t be getting it until next year.
