Qualcomm has unveiled its Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, the successor to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. The new chipset is a go between, sitting below the Snapdragon 7 Gen3 and the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen3.
Qualcomm says that the new chipset offers substantial performance improvements over its predecessor, which includes a 20% increase in CPU performance, a 40% boost in GPU performance, and a 30% enhancement in AI-oriented tasks.
Speaking of AI, the chip houses a dedicated AI Engine NPU, allowing it to handle AI-driven noise cancellation and reduction. The Spectra Triple ISP allows for simultaneous photo and video capture, with ultra-fast parallel processing and smooth zooming. The chip is also able to support up to a 200MP imaging sensor and 4K HDR video recording.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 supports FHD+ displays at up to 144Hz and is capable of handling up to 16GB RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. And while it has connectivity options that include 5G (both mmWave and Sub-6GHz), Wi-Fi (6E), and Bluetooth 5.4, it also supports GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC.
Qualcomm has also announced that brands such as Samsung, Realme, Sharp, and Xiaomi, will be incorporating the Snapdragon 7s Gen3 into their upcoming devices, in order for the company to diversify the chipset’s appeal and expected impact in the mid-range smartphone market.
