Razer has officially launched its latest audio offering, the Kraken V4 headset series. It is available in a standard variant, while the Kraken V4 X model acts as a budget-friendly option. Interestingly, a high-end Pro model is missing, and it is unclear whether the company plans to introduce one at a much later time.
The Kraken V4 carries over much from its predecessor. It still features Razer’s well-regarded TriForce Titanium drivers, though this year’s model has 40mm drivers instead of the previous 50mm ones. THX Spatial Audio also returns, continuing to deliver immersive gaming sound that enhances the audio experience.
One of the standout features of the Kraken V4 is its retractable microphone, cleverly stored in the left earcup. It is equipped with Razer’s HyperClear Cardioid technology and Super Wideband functionality, ensuring clear voice communication. Additionally, the headset includes a chat mix button that lets users easily adjust the balance between game and chat audio.
In contrast to the Kraken V3, the Kraken V4 is completely wireless, providing flexibility with three different connectivity options. Users can choose between a wired USB-C to USB-A connection, wireless low-latency audio via the USB-C HyperSpeed adapter, or Bluetooth connectivity for broader device compatibility.
The design of the Kraken V4 introduces vibrant Chroma RGB lighting, with the entire side of each earcup lighting up in a 9-zone configuration. This feature adds a colourful, eye-catching visual element to the headset, allowing gamers to personalise their lighting setup. However, the lighting affects battery life—users can expect up to 70 hours of use with lighting off, and around 35 hours with it on.
For those seeking a more affordable option, there’s the Kraken V4 X. It uses the same 40mm drivers but opts for 7.1 surround sound rather than THX Spatial Audio, and it also lacks the 9-zone Chroma lighting. The retractable mic with HyperClear Cardioid tech remains, but the V4 X drops Super Wideband functionality. Additionally, it includes a USB-A adapter to ensure compatibility with a wider range of PCs.
Unfortunately, Razer confirms that only the Kraken V4 X will be brought into Malaysia, while the vanilla variant won’t be available at this point of time. The former is expected to arrive in late Q3 2024 and is already available to pre-order via the company’s official website, priced at RM479.
