The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued a reminder to the public, emphasising that flying drones without approval is prohibited at celebration and parade locations across the country in the lead-up to and during National Day celebrations this year. This restriction, in effect from 26 to 31 August 2024, is intended to ensure that preparations and celebrations can proceed safely without disruptions.
CAAM highlighted that the ban is also crucial to prevent accidents involving aircraft from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), and the Fire & Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM). These agencies will be conducting training exercises and low-altitude formation flights at various National Day celebration sites during the specified period.
Additionally, CAAM cautioned that any aviation activity, including drone operations, falls under strict regulations. These are governed by section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1969 (Act 3), as well as regulations 98, 140-144 of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016, and the Civil Aviation Directives (CADs).
The reminder serves as a warning to the public to comply with these regulations, ensuring that the National Day celebrations can take place without any incidents that could endanger public safety or disrupt planned events. CAAM is urging the public to reach out to drone.taskforce@caam.gov.my for further inquiries, or visit its website at www.caam.gov.my.
