Google has officially launched the new Pixel 9 smartphone series for the Malaysian market. As mentioned in our previous article, only the base and the Pro XL are available for pre-order via official and authorised retailers at this time. As for the regular Pro, which was missing from the price reveal from earlier, the company confirmed during the event that the model would only arrive locally sometime in September.
To recap, all three Google Pixel 9 smartphones are powered by the new Tensor G4 chipset with Titan M2 security co-processor, on-device Gemini Nano and Android 14. They also offer other similar features, such as an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, Corning Gorilla Victus 2 protection, IP68 rating, and a first for the Malaysian market: satellite SOS capability. Additionally, Google promises to offer the trio with seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates.
The Pixel 9 features a 6.3-inch OLED display with 1080 x 2424 resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and 2,700 nits peak brightness. It includes 12GB RAM, 128GB or 256GB storage, a 4,700mAh battery with 45W fast charging, fast wireless charging and battery share capability, as well as a dual-camera setup with a 50MP primary and 48MP ultra-wide sensor. The vanilla model is available in Peony, Wintergreen, Porcelain, and Obsidian colours.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL boasts a larger 6.8-inch OLED display with 1344 x 2992 resolution and 3,000 nits peak brightness. This model offers 16GB RAM, storage options of up to 1TB, and a 5,060mAh battery with 45W fast charging, fast wireless charging and battery share capability. For photography, it features a triple-camera setup which adds a 48MP telephoto sensor with 5x optical zoom to the same 50MP primary and 48MP ultra-wide as the vanilla model, while in front is a 42MP front camera.
Lastly is the Pixel 9 Pro, which mostly shares the same specifications as the XL model, save for the smaller 6.3-inch OLED display with 1280 x 2856 pixel resolution as well as a battery capacity of only 4,700mAh. Both Pro models are available in Porcelain, Rose Quartz, Obsidian, and Hazel colours.
As revealed earlier this morning, the standard Pixel 9 is priced at RM3,999 for the 128GB trim and RM4,499 for the 256GB, while the Pro XL is priced at RM5,699 for the 128GB configuration, RM6,199 for the 256GB, RM6,799 for the 512GB, and RM7,999 for the 1TB.
