Rumours have it that AMD has plans on making more SKUs for its Strix Point Ryzen AI 300 series of mobile processors. Even more interesting is that the next set of SKUs will all have numbers greater than 370, which indicates that they will certainly be more powerful.
The source of this rumour stems from Golden Pig, who has proven to be reliable when it comes to this sort of topic. The China-based leakster and rumour monger did correctly identify the 12-core and 10-core Strix Point, well before the Ryzen AI 300 lineup made their debut.
To date, the Ryzen AI 300 Series has launched two SKUs, the 370 and 365, but it should be noted that there is an HX 375 SKU too, which is a special version of the former that features XDNA2 AI acceleration of 55 TOPS. Even if this rumour that AMD is planning to add in more SKUs is to be believed, the chipmaker certainly isn’t saying when exactly that will be.
On that note, the launch of AMD’s Strix Halo is expected to launch in early 2025. Launching new SKUs may be good, but that also increases the risk of the company cannibalizing its own products when the more powerful models make their debut.
Once again, this is merely a rumour, so as always, take this news with the surgeon general’s warning on flavour consumption.
