Google has officially unveiled its much anticipated Pixel 9 series of smartphones during its Made by Google keynote. All three variants – the base, Pro and Pro XL variants – are powered by the tech giant’s latest Tensor chipset, Android operating system, onboard Gemini Nano AI, and more.
The trio also sport an all-new design language; featuring a flat surrounding frame, along with rear panels with metallic finishes and a pill-shaped camera bump. Other things commonly shared between the three include Google’s new Tensor G4 chipset and Titan M2 security co-processor, Android 14, an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, Corning Gorilla Victus 2 protection, IP68 rating, as well as satellite SOS capability. The latter is worth noting, as the company’s website says the feature will be available in Malaysia.
The vanilla Google Pixel 9 offers a 6.3-inch OLED display with 1080 x 2424 pixel resolution, up to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, HDR support, full 24-bit depth for 16 million colours, and 2,700 nits peak brightness. This model comes with 12GB of RAM, along with storage options of either 128GB or 256GB. Powering it is a 4,700mAh battery with 45W fast charging via USB-C, fast wireless charging support, and battery share capability.
Imaging-wise, on its back is a dual-camera setup which consists of a 50MP Octa PD primary sensor with 8x Super Res Zoom, and a 48MP Quad PD ultra-wide. In front, housed within the punch-hole cutout on its display is a 10.5MP Dual PD selfie camera.
Next up is the Pixel 9 Pro, which offers the same 6.3-inch display size as the vanilla variant. However, its OLED panel features a higher resolution of 1280 x 2856 pixels, along with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, full 24-bit depth for 16 million colours, and a higher peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
Memory-wise, this model comes with 16GB RAM and either 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB storage options. Meanwhile, it has the same 4,700mAh battery, but with faster 45W charging support via USB-C, as well as fast wireless charging and battery share capability.
The Pro comes with a triple camera setup on its back, with the third sensor being a 48MP Quad PD telephoto with 5x optical zoom. The other two shooters are exactly the same ones offered on the standard variant of the Pixel 9. Flipping the phone over, the selfie camera housed within its cutout has a larger 42MP Dual PD sensor.
Last but not least, we have the Pixel 9 Pro XL, which has a much larger 6.8-inch display with 1344 x 2992 pixel resolution, as well as a beefier 5,060mAh battery. The rest of its specifications, such as fast charging, camera setup and so on, are the same as the Pro model.
All three Pixel 9 models are offered in Peony (pink), Wintergreen, Porcelain, and Obsidian colour options. Additionally, Google promises to provide the trio with seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates.
The vanilla Google Pixel 9 starts at US$799 (~RM3,555), while the Pro and Pro XL starts at US$999 (~RM4,445) and US$1,099 (~RM4,890) respectively. No local pricing or availability just yet, unfortunately. For that, you will have to wait for the local launch, which will happen later today.
