TikTok is introducing new updates to its direct messaging feature, including the addition of group chats. While this feature is not yet available globally, users who do have access can now retain group chats with up to 32 people.
Users have two options. First, from the inbox, they can select the Chat button at the top or choose a name from the messages list and then tap “More options.” From there, you can select friends to include in the group and begin the chat.
Alternatively, users can initiate a group chat by sharing a TikTok post with multiple people, simply by tapping the Share button on a video and selecting “Create group chat.”
Teens under 18 face slightly different rules: they can only join a group chat if it includes at least one person who follows them back. Additionally, teens who start a group chat must manually review and approve any new members.
TikTok has also rolled out new custom stickers for users 18 and up, where you’re able to create chat stickers to add a visual element to the conversation, allowing for more expressive and engaging interactions.
