GPD, the Shenzhen-based company that’s made a name with its handheld mini PCs over the past several years, recently unveiled the Pocket 4. It’s the company’s first, as well as a world first, handheld-sized mini PC fitted with AMD’s Ryzen AI mobile processor.
Specs-wise, the Pocket 4 runs on the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, AMD’s top of the line mobile processor, featuring 12-cores, 24-threads, and a boost clock of 5.1GHz out of the box. Other specs of the mobile processor include the Radeon 890M, and the XDNA2 NPU for AI-based tasks and a maximum performance of 50 TOPS.
Other specs of the Pocket 4 include an 8.8-inch LTPS display with 2.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. It also offers 64GB DDR5 RAM and up to 4TB of PCIe 4.0 storage, as well as a handful of connectivity options, one of which is a 4G LTE Expansion Module.
It should be noted that unlike previous GPD handheld PC models, the Pocket 4 isn’t designed for the express purpose of gaming and therefore lacks a dedicated gamepad. For battery, the mini PC comes equipped with a 44.8Wh battery. That seems pretty small and within the territory of the ASUS ROG Ally and Steam Deck, but the company promises up to nine hours of video playback, despite the battery size.
At the time of writing, GPD did not say how much the Pocket 4 would cost, nor did it give an exact date of availability, other than that it would be available sometime in October.
