The PICO 4 was released back in 2022 as another option for VR enthusiasts. It’s been awhile, but it looks like the headset is getting either a sequel, or a mid-generation upgrade, depending on the way you intepret the name. This is because the names PICO 4S and PICO 4 Ultra have been floated around on the internet, courtesy of serial leakster @OnLeaks. All things considered, it doesn’t seem all that different compared to its predecessor, besides one major difference.
This difference in really with the cameras immediately in front of the headset. Where the PICO 4 had a single passthrough camera, the PICO 4S looks to have two, and pretty large ones at that taking a good portion more on the headset than the preceding model. Most of everything else looks to be identical. The part of the band that sits at the back of the wearer’s head looks pretty bulky, and could house its battery the way the it did before.
It’s the same story with the PICO 4S controllers as well, as besides the lack of the halo on each of them they look to be mostly identical. That being said, the new model also looks to sport detachable straps that look like the headband on the headset itself.
Android Headlines reports that the PICO 4S has been spotted in the South Korean National Radio Reseach Agency in June. This could point to a launch sometime soon, though no exact date was provided. The report also notes a few items from the headset’s spec sheet via Geekbench, which includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, and 12GB of RAM. But going back to the other potential name of PICO 4 Ultra, @OnLeaks notes that this may be down to which region the headset is sold in.
