Google Authenticator will now be integrating the Material 3 redesign, including Material You for Android under the app’s 7.0 update. And while this feature has been available on iOS since last year, it is now making its debut on Android.
The update includes a new search function where users can now search through accounts using an interface that combines the account switcher and the hamburger menu. It also features a redesigned navigation drawer with curved corners, which houses tools like “Transfer Codes,” “How It Works” modules, Settings, and “Help & Feedback.”
Additionally, the “Scan a QR code” functionality has been revamped with the new user interface. It now includes a flash option and a disclaimer about Google Pay services and it privacy terms.
In the Settings menu, a new “Privacy” screen feature will restrict app access with a screen lock, PIN, or biometric authentication. Users can choose the required unlock time after the app becomes inactive, with options ranging from immediate to 10 minutes.
Take note that this update will remove screenshot capabilities, as part of its increased security. At the time of writing, the Material You update doesn’t appear available on the Play Store, but users can sideload it if they wish to get their hands on it early.
