As much as the times have moved on, some negative stereotypes about gamers have not really been left behind. While not necessarily to counter this, one pharmaceutical company in Japan has decided to organise a Street Fighter 6 tourney with a unique additional rule – participants that are sleep-deprived will be penalised.
The tourney, fittingly, is called Sleep Fighter, organised by SS Pharmaceuticals. This particular Street Fighter 6 tourney is a team tourney, with four teams of three members taking on each other. As per the additional stipulation, each player will need to clock at least six hours of sleep every night of a week leading up to the tourney, which means a total of 126 hours of sleep for the team.
Participants of this unique Street Fighter 6 tourney will be given a measuring device by the tourney organisers to accurately measure the amount of sleep each participant gets, even if it’s not the most spoof-proof method. Each hour of sleep that a team lacks will see them lose five points, with these points being accumulated depending on the results of each match.
Part of the reason SS Pharmaceuticals arranged for this unique Street Fighter 6 tourney is to highlight the importance of sleep. Of course, the company is also taking the opportunity to promote its own sleeping aids called Doriel. The Sleep Fighter tourney itself is scheduled to happen on 31 August.
