Despite the Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 launching earlier this year, or late last year depending on your perspective, there is already a new entry into the company’s Pro tablet lineup. This comes in the form of the MatePad 12.2, though it did not launch alone, with the MatePad Air also tagging along for the ride.
The highlight of the Huawei MatePad 12.2 is the dual-layer OLED screen, with a 1,840 x 2,800 resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, 2,000 nits of peak brightness and a claimed 33% improved efficiency. Memory and storage configs go from 12GB + 256GB all the way up to 16GB + 1TB, while the battery is rated at 10,100mAh with a 100W charging rate. For cameras, it has a 13MP main + 8MP wide-angle combo at the back, and a 16MP shooter in front.
And on that note, this tablet gets a 12-inch IPS LCD screen with a 1,000 nits peak brightness, but otherwise shares its resolution and refresh rate with the MatePad Pro 12.2. Likewise, the Air also shares the rear camera combo and battery capacity, but the charging rate here is 66W instead, and the front camera is an 8MP shooter. RAM options are between 8GB and 12GB, while storage choices are 256GB and 512GB. For both tablets, the chipset they run are not listed, but GSMArena claims that it may be the Kirin 9010 from the Huawei Pura 70 series.
Oddly enough, despite their name, the Huawei matePad Pro 12.2 is actually thinner and lighter than the MatePad Air. It’s a small difference, but the former measures 5.5mm thin and 508g in weight, as opposed to the latter’s 5.9mm and 555g. Lastly, both run HarmonyOS 4.2
At any rate, the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 is priced in its home market of China at a starting point of CNY4,299 (~RM2,697), while the MatePad Air start from CNY2,999 (~RM1,881). Availability there starts on 13 August, but there’s no word on local pricing and availability just yet.
