Geely has recently launched the Galaxy E5 all-electric SUV in China. If the name sounds somewhat familiar, that’s because the EV would serve as the basis for the upcoming Proton e.Mas 7 that was recently unveiled last week.
The Geely Galaxy E5 is built on the automaker’s Geely Electric Architecture (GEA) platform, which uses a cell-to-body (CTB) design where the battery is fully integrated into the body shell. As revealed by the company, the newly launched EV measures at 4,615mm in length, 1,901mm in width, 1,670mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,750mm.
All variants of the Galaxy E5 are equipped with a front-mounted electric motor that produces 218PS (215hp or 160kW) and 320 Nm of torque. This enables the EV to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 180km/h. The powertrain includes the brand’s Galaxy 11-in-1 intelligent drive system, which consolidates crucial components into a compact unit weighing 79.8 kg and with a volume of 72 litres.
The all-electric SUV is powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that’s available in two capacities. The first option is a 49.52kWh battery that provides a range of up to 440km, and the second is a 60.22kWh battery offering a range of up to 530km. It should be noted that the ranges provided are both based on the CLTC testing standard and not WLTP.
On the inside, the Galaxy E5 boasts an interior space of up to 4.03 square metres. Notable features include a large, floating central infotainment screen, a 10.2-inch driver’s instrument display located behind the two-spoke steering wheel, and a head-up display. The central display is a 15.4-inch touchscreen with 2.5K resolution, powered by a Dragon Eagle One 7nm CPU. For audio, premium models of the Galaxy E5 will include up to 16 speakers, with some featured on headrests.
The Geely Galaxy E5 is priced between CNY112,800 (~RM69,700) and CNY148,800 (~RM92,000). It is offered in eight different colours including red, pink, grey, green, white, silver, black, and blue.
With its counterpart now official, it’ll be some time until further details regarding the e.MAS 7 will be revealed. From what’s been showcased last week, Proton’s first EV appears to feature an altered design from the Galaxy E5, while there’s a chance that its specifications and features may differ as well. As for availability, the local automaker promises that the e.MAS 7 is slated to go on sale earliest by December this year.
