A hat is probably the last place you’d expect to find portable solar panels, but that’s exactly what the EcoFlow Power Hat is. Made by a company that specialises in portable power in many forms, this hat is pretty on brand – pun not intended – especially if you’ve taken a glance at the company’s catalogue.
The EcoFlow Power Hat claims to be able to charge a phone with a 4,000mAh battery within 3-4 hours, providing a rated charging rate of 12W. This is done via its USB-A and USB-C port. The brand also claims that the hat doesn’t need constant adjusting like traditional solar panels for optimum sunlight exposure.
Making sure that it survives the outdoors, the EcoFlow Power Hat comes with an IP65 rating, which makes it splash-proof, but far from waterproof. So when the going gets too tough, or when there’s not enough sunlight to justify wearing it, it can be folded away for storage, and at 370g it doesn’t sound too heavy.
Available in two sizes, the smaller-sized EcoFlow Power Hat accommodates the equivalent of the M and L sizes, while the larger one is made for L and XL-sized heads. Both have the same price of US$129 (~RM571) in the US, with pre-orders open until 31 August and shipments expected around mid September.
For now, there’s no word on if this is coming to our shores, but for what it’s worth, the company has an official presence locally. Well, sort of, as while its official site doesn’t list Malaysia, it does have an official Shopee page for the local market.
