Apple is supposedly preparing to introduce new Mac products powered by its M4 chip, sometime in 2025. These include models like the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and the Mac Pro. According to Mark Gurman, a reporter at Bloomberg, the M4, first introduced in this year’s iPad Pro in May, will build upon the updates of the M3-powered MacBook Pro and iMac.
This year, the primary focus of the updates will be attempting to integrate M4 technology into the models, it’s also worth mentioning that substantial changes beyond the chipset are not to be expected. On a related note, the upcoming 24-inch iMac models featuring the M4 chip may come with additional USB-C accessories.
M4 inclusion notwithstanding, there may be significant design changes for at least one Mac model, for that matter. Given that the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac have already undergone revamps in their designs, the Mac Pro and Mac Mini might be the candidates for these updates. The Mac Mini, which has seen minimal design changes since 2020 and skipped the M3 series, might particularly be in line for a new look.
As a quick primer, the Mac Pro, last refreshed in 2022, continues to use the same design as the 2019 model which was built for modularity. And since the Mac Mini has had port updates and the removal of the DVD drive, it’s likely that one of these models will see, as Gurman puts it, the “dramatic changes”.
