NVIDIA will be discontinuing production of the GeForce RTX 3060, so says the reports. According to the online portal Board Channels, the GPU brand has already given board partners notice on its decision, giving them a final opportunity to place orders for the card.
Before you let panic and anxiety set in, understand that NVIDIA’s decision to move forward from the RTX 3060 isn’t going to happen overnight. NVIDIA will still ship out orders to partners that put in their orders for the card, meaning that it’ll be months before it is officially reaches of end of production status.
The RTX 3060 made its debut back in 2021 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and dreaded resurgence in cryptomining, giving gamers an affordable entry-level gaming option, provided they could find a unit. Initially, it launched with 12GB GDDR6 of graphics memory, with an 8GB variant launching nearly two years after. There were no Founders Edition of the card, with NVIDIA leaving the cooling solutions to board partners.
At the time of writing, the RTX 3060 appears to be only RTX 30 Series GPU NVIDIA is seemingly ceasing production for. There is no word if it plans on discontinuing other Ampere-based card, although at this stage, it is clearly a question of “when”.
