A Chinese company by the name of Cixin Technology – an unfortunate name if you read it in Cantonese – recently made headway in China by unveiling its first-ever “AI PC” processors, and it’s named after its parent company, the Cixin P1.
The “AI PC” Cixin P1 is based on the ARM architecture that is similar to Qualcomm’s own recently launched Snapdragon X Series SoCs. Specs-wise, it features a 12-core CPU comprising eight Performance Cores and four Efficiency cores, with a boost clock of up to 3.2GHz, and is constructed on a 6nm process node.
As for the AI part of the Cixin P1, the AI PC processor comes with an integrated NPU that its maker promises up to 45 TOPS in AI performance which again, is more or less on par with Qualcomm’s own ARM-based offerings. Other specifications of the device points to the processor supporting up to 64GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory, and up to a 4K 120Hz display. There is also mention of support for PCIe Gen4 and USB-C, although it is unclear if the latter is simple 3.2 or the full-fat USB4 standard.
Credit where it’s due, the existence of a China-made AI chip that on paper is on par with some of today’s AI-focused processors is no small feat. But., again, there’s still no raw performance data of the Cixin P1 as of yet, but that’s just a matter of time.
